Montana Educators’ AI Work Session: Streamlining and Enhancing Teaching
Please join our 6-hour professional learning day on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into your Montana classrooms and daily professional life! This hands-on session is designed to empower you with the practical knowledge and skills to leverage AI tools responsibly, efficiently, and effectively.
The day will focus on moving beyond the fear of AI to explore its potential as a powerful teaching assistant and creative partner.
Session Summary: Key Learning Objectives
- Understanding Generative AI (GenAI) & Core Concepts:
- Gain a foundational understanding of what GenAI tools (like ChatGPT, Claude, and AI image generators) are, how they work, and their relevance to K-12 education.
- Discuss the Five Big Ideas in AI (Perception, Representation & Reasoning, Learning, Natural Interaction, and Societal Impact) as a framework for AI literacy.
- Mastering Prompt Engineering for Educators:
- Learn and practice effective prompting techniques to generate high-quality, relevant outputs for lesson planning, activity creation, and assessment design.
- Develop a library of reusable prompts to streamline daily administrative tasks (e.g., email drafts, data analysis, summary creation).
- AI for Instructional Differentiation and Personalization:
- Explore hands-on ways to use AI to quickly differentiate content and activities to meet diverse student needs and learning levels.
- Use AI to help design personalized learning paths or scaffolded resources for students.
- Ethical Use, Academic Integrity, and Responsible AI Policy:
- Engage in critical discussions on the ethical implications of AI, including data privacy, potential bias, and academic honesty.
- Develop practical strategies for revising assignments to encourage critical thinking and authentic student work in an AI-enhanced world.
Please Note: A catered lunch will be provided during the work session to ensure you have time to network with colleagues and recharge before the afternoon’s hands-on activities. The $30 fee covers lunch, registration, and supplies. 6 OPI renewal units will be available for participants.
